It has been a decade since OpenFlow and SDN was introduced in 2008. In this talk, we will first summarize two major SDN approaches that people have been arguing over the past 10 years and discuss their pros and cons. We will then describe what we’ve been struggling with the existing solutions and introduce UPAN (Unified Programmable & Automated Network), a forward-looking SDN architecture enabled by emerging technologies such as programmable pipeline and network embedded VNF acceleration.
